Inspired by 15 years on the road with the Supernatural gang, these one of a kind mini leather pockets made to be worn on belt are filled with multi media , stakes, bones, syringes, vials of vampire ashes, potions or herbs, eating utensils, holy water, oils, and weaponry are decorated with sewn on or dangling chains, pentacles, spell books, keys, bloody knives, guns ,skeleton and ghost charms and more.

Each hero version specifically hooks up the kit with items, symbols and representations of their part in the story. Garth Fitzgerald, the many times revisited geeky Marmaduke loving hunter who began his monster obsession by killing the tooth fairy and is last remembered dancing the soft shoe with Dean in the final season, is above all joyful, fun and good hearted, He became and remained a bitten werewolf during the course of his story, so the kit i built for him is centered on the teal stamped wolfspaw concho—this, along with the silver tone moon and howling wolf charm commemorate this change, as he stayed a hunter, became a husband and a father as a werewolf while staying Garth. The pocket also sports the hunters plaid, has the ubiquitous bloody dagger, Bobby’s baseball cap, beer bottle cap (“of course I’m drunk, I just drank a whole bottle of beer”), along with the tree of life (just because it looked cool and fit the vibe).

The dead man’s blood syringe, a part of every monter hunter’s kit, extends a little below the pocket. I chose the linked together circles chain to dangle below the pocket and support the silver bullet pack, the silver cross, the mini hand cuffs and keys, because it progresses the “nerdiness.” You can see the turquoise hardboard peeking from under the larger sunburst pentacle silver tone charm—the identifying symbol of “Supernatural.) This painted board supports the black suede pocket into which are tucked wooden carved stakes, a trophy tube of glittery vamp ashes, vials of “holy oil”, salt and yarrow (yes the real deal).

This nonfunctional kit measures 10-3/4” L X 3-3/4” W X 1” D and will fit on a belt up to 2’ wide as shown below.

WARNING: All of these monster hunter kits (and most especially those with the real blades are to be kept away from all young children and babies, and should be considered for adults only—18 and older.

The Original Scientific Steampunk Field Test Kits were developed in 2007 simply as a novelty item to utilize some weirdly cut saddle skirt leather (very thick very hard) scraps from Jedi belts and a bag of discontinued scientific equipment and supplies found at a local scientific shop located near a downtown museum. I needed something that screamed “Steampunk” so by gluing said science stuff on to soft pockets then dangling chains with jump rings from the bottom to hold more supplies, gears, and keys. The anchor point of the design was always the metallic painted vials that were created to look like test tubes, tucked into the pocket and backed by tooled, stamped, embossed painted and/or dyed hard backs.

These kits were wildly popular, priced super low in the beginning, mostly due to the instability and the disposable nature of the idea. Little did I know, after 15 years of evolution the steampunk movement and my leathercrafting skills would mean that I would still be making new improvements, developing characters and steampunk themes yearly (these newer versions are far more detailed and durable featuring mostly sewn on and glue reinforced elements. . .) or that every version would be completely unique while still keeping the steampunk elements intact.

Early on I realized that glass and metal would make these designs too heavy and dangerous to be really viable as something to carry around the waist or sewn on chest area aprons or lab coats, so I began the practice of seeking and reworking plastic tools, tubes, vials, and syringes, increasing my time investment in the ideas.

The field test kit product spawned the monster hunting kits in 2011 which surprisingly increased the interest in the original field test kits. I only thought steampunk (and this product) would die a quick death of disinterest. The stories are just beginning.
