Steampunk Airship Ribbed Oxblood Classic Cell Phone Size Belt Pouch

$55.00

Back when this aesthetic was new a commonly stated definition— “Paint it brown, glue on a few gears and call it steampunk.” I couldn’t resist, so I pulled a few of my classic pouches and did just that.

From my boxes of greeblies I pulled a molded plastic nouveau fleur that I painted copper, an antique brass dirigible charm, a matching antique brass heart with gears buttons, trio of copper small gears which I sewed onto an existing pocket with black waxed cord. And for good measure I hammered ten smaller antique brass rivets to complete the design.

The pocket size used for this project was built to accommodate most larger modern cell phones, measuring 4-1/4” W X 6-3/4” long and 1-1/4”. This rounded ends stiff boxlike pouch colored a deep red brown called Oxblood is constructed out of med weight veg tan (about 6 oz) using my most classic pattern and building techniques and fits on belts up to 3” wide.

The belt shown in photos with this pouch is sold separately in another listing. To repeat: THE BELT IS NOT INCLUDED.

Classic style pouches were originally made as companions to my galactic knight belt collection. They are simple and sturdy—cut in one long rectangular piece with a rounded end that form the body of the pocket and the flap when stitched onto the side panels (also round ended rectangles) with a favorite overcast and wrapped stitch at about 1” intervals and sealed completely with leather cement glue. A line carved about 1/8” to 1/4” from the edge encircles the entire body of the pouch and the side panels. A second line at about 1/4” from the first goes round the body , then vertical lines at about 1/2” apart form the ribbed texture that is the defining characteristic of this classic look. The very simplicity of this design makes these pouches a perfect companions for many multi eras and looks. Pouches are usually oiled, then often dyed with a combination of antique gel and colors—black, bison brown, java brown, British tan, and oxblood, and finally finished with more oil and several coats of acrylic sealant to protect the pieces from leaching onto costumes. I offer this belt pouch in four different sizes—tiny, original, cell phone long, and wider (also accommodates phones). A magnetic snap glued invisibly to the flap and glued a second time with a fabric protector pairs with the hammer set receiver positioned about 1” from the top of the pocket determines the final size of the pouch. And the belt loop attaches to the pouch back with glue, rivets and stitching. Need other sizes or colors? Reach out to me on my contact page.
