Hunter's Edition: "Just for Fun" Demon Trap Black and Red Medium Arm Bracer Pair

Custom leather arm bracers are always welcome additions to costumes that celebrate the warrior characters we choose to emulate, and while many do have specific details we need to follow to cosplay and copy; others, like the ones I show here are simply meant to show what is possible. Sturdier and more permanent than the foam or plastic alternatives, leather arm bracers can add a layer of forearm protection in light combat or archery. These full size bracers for medium adult arms bring you one of Fabriquewerx most iconic designs: our just for fun Demon Trap (see story below).

The trap design, done as an independent circular badge, is both stitched and riveted to the shield shaped bracer body—the body was carved first with a line all round each piece at about 1/4” then again carved into ribs spaced about 1/2” apart. The line carved edges were painted red, the body of the bracers dyed black. Glued in suede cloth finishes the interiors before the leather was wet formed around pvc pipe to mold the curved shape Bracers are laced criss-cross with black corset lacing thru six grommet finished holes that adjust to fit a variety of medium size arms.

Size: 7-1/4” L from apex to wrist , tapering to 4-1/4” L curved sides and 8-1/2” W. Happy Hunting!

Inspired by the TV show and determined not to copy their iconic demon trap design, and also committed to the idea that we can accidentally bring intangible consequences about thru imprudent use of symbols.

I first decided to use common and semi-recognizable ideas from Chinese and Arabic. Thus I chose the banishment symbol from Arabic, and the ill fortune or bad luck sign from Chinese. I had a little baroque stamp in my kit that when painted red looks like a little humanesque shaped demon, and I used a recognizable symbol for Earth from past sci-fi. Then just for fun I chose pi for no other reason than it sounds like “pie,” my own (and Dean’s) favorite dessert.

A red circle, surround the red pentacle (5 pointed star) and the space between the points house the tiny symbols just described in a traditional summoning or banishing circle, as shown in supernatural literature. After a time I learned to tool and carve around each of the tiny symbols and fill in the spaces with texture as I choose for each version of the Trap that I produce.

So, the story is. . .we are banishing demons and bad fortune from earth while eating pie. And I am sticking to it
